Dons Send Volleyball To 13th Straight Defeat

SAN FRANCISCO - Three San Francisco players compiled double-digit kills as the Dons sent Gonzaga to its 13th straight defeat in a West Coast Conference volleyball match from War Memorial Gym on Friday night. San Francisco won in three games 15-3, 15-8, 15-11.

The Dons set the tone for the evening early connecting on over fifty percent of their attacks as they easily dispatched Gonzaga 15-3 in the opening game. USF recorded 23 of their 61 match kills in the opening victory.

San Francisco kept it rolling in the second game as Thersa Russell and Laura Tinetti led the Dons attack set up by Christen Hamilton's match-high 49 assists. The Zags mixed up their line-up to try and light a spark as Emilie Heggli and Jessie Holly split time at the setter position during the match.

Gonzaga showed signs of life in the final game staying close but eventually dropping the game 15-11 and the match 3-0. The Zags recorded their best hitting game of the match in the final stanza connecting on 18-of-62 attacks (.145). Natasha Kozen had a strong game for Gonzaga on her way to a team-high 9 kills for the match. Britt Whiting finished second on the squad with 8 kills.

Gonzaga dropped its 13th straight match of the season falling to 4-18 and 0-8 in the WCC. The Zags are one loss shy of tieing the school record for losses in a season set in 1996. San Francisco defeated Gonzaga for the second time this season improving to 10-9 and 2-6 in the WCC. Gonzaga will stay in the Bay Area for a Saturday night match against No. 15 Santa Clara.
