SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga freshman second baseman Eric Rodland batted .632 and extended his hitting streak to 11 games, his second 11 game streak of the year, to earn the Rawlings / West Coast Conference Player of the Week honor.
Rodland, from Snohomish, Wash., had five hits in Gonzaga's game with Lewis-Clark State and recorded at least two hits in each of the three games the Zags swept from Saint Mary's. He went 12-for-19 at the plate, built a .650 on-base percentage in the four games and raised his season batting average to .368. During the course of the week, Rodland also put together a streak of six consecutive hits.
Rodland and the Zags head to San Diego this weekend for a three-game series with the Toreros. Gonzaga stands just 1.5 games behind Loyola Marymount for top spot in the WCC Coast Division.
