Gonzaga Women 4th After First Round Of WCC Golf Championship

WINDSOR, Calif. - Lisa Wasinger and Caryn Sears both shot 82 Monday to tie for 9th in the rain-shortened first day of the West Coast Conference Golf Championship as Gonzaga University stood fourth heading into Tuesday's final round.

Wasinger had a 41 on both sides, while Sears had a 43-39 over the 5,818 yard, par 72 Windsor Golf Course. Gonzaga had a team total 347, 8 shots behind third place University of Portland at 339. Gonzaga is two strokes ahead of Santa Clara University. Five WCC schools sponsor women's golf.

Other Gonzaga scores were Alicia Gilb in 18th (48-42 - 90), Darcey Allen tied for 22nd (46-47 - 93) and Kate Siddell 24th (50-47 - 97).

Two-time defending WCC champion Pepperdine University, ranked 7th nationally, shot a 313 for an 8-shot lead over the University of San Francisco. Lindsey Wright of Pepperdine leads heading into the final 18 holes after shooting a 38-36 - 74.

The first day was shortened to 18 holes after rain delayed the start of play Monday.
