SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga (27-22, 17-12 WCC) used a six run inning in both games of Saturday's West Coast Conference double-header against San Francisco (25-32, 9-20 WCC) to sweep the twin-bill from the Dons at August / A.R.T. Stadium in Spokane. Gonzaga won the opener 7-6 and the nightcap 12-4. The two teams will conclude this three-game series on Sunday at noon with the Bulldogs final home game of the 2000 season.
In the night cap Barry Matthews and Jason Martina battled back and forth on the pitching mound before the Bulldogs exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break open the game. Matthews (9-4) would finish eight innings of work on the mound allowing only three earned runs, while Martina (2-4) was chased from the game following a three-run inning by Gonzaga in the sixth.

Gonzaga finally figured out Jason Martina in the bottom of the fifth as Brian Munhall and Kevin Cave opened the inning with back-to-back doubles to tie the game at 1-1. Brent Church, Jason Bay, and Barry Matthews all followed with RBI's and Adam Stokey capped off the inning with his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field. For Matthews, the hit extended his hitting streak to 23 games which is tied for the 10th longest hitting streak in college this year and the four longest active hitting streak.
Gonzaga took advantage of a San Francisco error with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Zags added three more runs with Danny Evans two run single down the right field line being the big blow. Gonzaga's final three runs came in the bottom of the eighth inning as Brent Church, Jason Bay and Barry Matthews all hit consecutive doubles to open the inning. San Francisco's final runs came in the top of the eighth as Chad Soares hit a two-run home run for the Dons.
Brent Church and Adam Stokey finished the nightcap 3-for-5 to lead Gonzaga with Barry Matthews and Kevin Cave adding two hit games. Chad Soares went 4-for-5 to lead San Francisco in a game in which both teams combined for seven errors and allowed five unearned runs.
