The Gonzaga University baseball team released its 2001 baseball schedule which is highlighted by games at traditional baseball powers Arizona State University and Oklahoma State University. The season opens Feb. 9 when Gonzaga continues its annual season-opening showdown with Washington State in Pasco, WA. Following a non-conference weekend series in Portland, the Bulldogs travel to Southern California for a weekend series at San Diego State. The first weekend in March will serve as the opening home weekend for GU for the second straight season as Gonzaga plays a weekend home-and-home series with Washington State. The Zags will be home on Friday and Sunday with a Saturday game in Pullman.
After finishing second in their division in the West Coast Conference race the last two seasons, Gonzaga will attempt to get over that hump when they open the conference season at two-time defending champion Loyola Marymount on Mar. 9-11.
