Baseball Announces 2002 Schedule

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University announced its 2002 baseball schedule and the Zags will start their quest towards a second West Coast Conference Coast Division crown on February 1. Gonzaga will stay on the West Coast for their entire schedule this season playing 30 games against WCC opponents, 17 non-conference games against Pac-10 schools along with an appearance in the Fresno State Pepsi/Johnny Quik Baseball Classic.

Gonzaga will open its 2002 schedule on the road with a series against UCLA. The Zags first home date will be a two game weekend series with Whitworth on February 23-24. Gonzaga will open defense of its WCC Coast Division title on the road against defending WCC Champion Pepperdine. The two division champions will be joined by Santa Clara and Saint Mary's after the two WCC baseball divisions realigned after last season.

After opening seven of the first eight weekends on the road, Gonzaga will have the advantage of ending the season at home. The Zags will play their final two WCC series at August/A.R.T. Stadium, hosting Pepperdine in the final series of the season.
