Saint Mary's College solidified 2nd place in the West Coast Conference with a 63-50 victory over Gonzaga women's basketball team on Friday night in The McKeon Arena.

SMC improved to 17-5 overall and 6-3 in the WCC as the Bulldogs are now 5-17 overall and 0-9 in conference play.

Saint Mary's jumped out to an early 10-1 lead as the Zags came no closer than six points throughout the rest of the first half. The Gales headed into halftime with a 33-21 advantage as they hit on 15-of-35 shots (43-percent) by half's end.

The Gaels built a 20-point lead, 48-28, when Mary Volmer hit a 3-pointer at the 11:56 mark and SMC never looked back. The Gaels maintained their 20-point lead, 59-39, at the 5:00 mark as Jessica Malone made good on two free throws but it was too little too late for the Zags as GU suffered their 9th consecutive WCC loss.

The Zags shot 23 percent, connecting on just 16-of-69 shots from the field as the Gaels shot 37 percent hitting 25-of-68 for the game. Each team had a difficult time finding their niche from 3-point range as GU finished 6-of-30 and SMC made good on 4-of-22 3's for the game.

Jessica Malone and Jermisha Dosty led the way with game-highs in points and rebounds as each player recorded 15 and 14 for their respective teams. Malone, the WCC's leading scorer, struggled with her shooting as she hit on 6-of-18 shots from the field and 1-of-9 from behind the 3-point stripe.

Bernice Sitme, the WCC's leader in rebounds, chipped in 12 points and six boards while SMC's Jerkisha Dosty added 12 and five respectively.

The Zag women will travel to the University of San Francisco to take on the Lady Dons on Saturday night at USF's War Memorial Gym. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
