Box Score
MALIBU, Calif. - Noah Lowry scattered three hits and struck out a career-high 11 batters as No. 16 Pepperdine (20-10, 9-2 WCC) edged Gonzaga (11-15, 4-7 WCC) 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium in Malibu. The teams will conclude the three game West Coast Conference series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
The Waves would get all the offense they needed on the afternoon in the bottom of the first inning as Woody Cliffords led off the game with a double against Gonzaga starter Barry Matthews (3-1). After a Danny Garcia single moved Cliffords to third base, Jared Pitney drove home the Waves lone run with a sacrifice fly. Matthews would allow only four hits the remainder of the game as he tossed his third complete game of the season in the loss.
John Gebbers would get the Zags first hit of the game against Lowry (8-1) in the second inning. Lowry would then set down 14 straight Bulldog batters before Matthews doubled for the second Gonzaga hit. Kevin Cave's two out single in the ninth would be the last GU hit as Lowry collected his first career complete game.
