SEATTLE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team (0-1) launched the spring season Friday with their first dual match against the University of California Santa Barbara at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, Wash.
The Bulldogs recorded a winless match as they were defeated 7-0 by the Gauchos. The Bulldogs No. 1 ranked singles player Shaun Whitney lost to Marcin Kosakowski 6-1, 6-4 to post the Zags closest singles score of the day.
Whitney and Brian McConnel also produced Gonzaga's strongest performance in doubles action when they were edged 8-5 by the nationally ranked team of Carlos Palencia and Marcin Kosakowski. Palencia entered the 2002 season ranked No.76 by the International Tennis Association.
The Bulldogs continue action on the road Saturday against West Coast Conference opponent University of Portland in Seattle.
