Women's Soccer Suffers 1-0 Shutout Against Loyola Marymount

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University Bulldogs (5-9-0,0-3-0) suffered their fifth consecutive loss Sunday afternoon as the Loyola Marymount Lions (9-4-2,2-1-0) edged them 1-0 in West Coast Conference Action at Martin Field.

Gonzaga and Loyola Marymount fought to a 0-0 first-half tie as the match remained scoreless for much of the second half.

Freshman forward Kellie Schroeder came off the bench to give the Lions the game-winning goal at 64:16 on a short cross from Lori Sims. Schroeder took the deflected pass from Sims from five-yards out and drove the ball from the far right post into the shallow left side of the net. Schroeder now leads the Lions with five goals on the year.

The Bulldogs threatened in the last seconds as Annie Hawkins unleashed a short shot that bounced off the right goal post. The Lions out-shot the Bulldogs 13-2 as GU collected a pair of shots in the first half. Heidi Jacobson and Heidi Safadago each tallied a shot for Gonzaga.

Bulldog goalkeeper Ashley Haugen picked up six saves while Lion goalkeeper Kelly Yukihiro tallied one. Yukihiro notched the win and her fifth shutout of the year.

LMU's Jennifer Cefalia and Jennifer Horn were each issued yellow card cautions in the second half.

The Bulldogs open a three-match road trip Friday against Saint Mary's College at 3 p.m. Gonzaga will play their last home match Sunday, Nov. 3, against the University of San Diego at Martin Field.
