Bulldogs Volleyball Falls To No. 25 San Diego, 3-0

SPOKANE, Wash. - The 25th-ranked San Diego Toreros (23-6, 8-3 WCC) won their seventeenth straight contest over the host Gonzaga Bulldogs (4-22, 2-10 WCC) during West Coast Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Martin Centre. The Toreros swept the contest 30-17, 32-30 and 30-24.
San Diego used a 11-3 run midway through the first game to break open a close contest between the schools. The red-hot Toreros connected for 41 percent of their attacks as Noel Frohman had five of her match-high 17 kills during the USD win. Gonzaga was limited to a .029 attack percentage as they connected for only nine team kills.
The Bulldogs had their chances in game two as they hit a steady .250 with 14 team kills. Gonzaga held a 28-25 advantage and pushed that into a 29-28 lead but the Zags could not capitalize on there leads. Frohman had two late kills to propel USD to the come-from-behind game two win. Natasha Kozen had paced the Bulldogs attack with four kills including one that put GU up 30-29.
The Toreros rolled out to an early advantage in the third game and the Bulldogs could not rebound from being down 17-9. Frohman and Devon Forster led the Toreros as they collected 17 team kills in the final game win. Gonzaga was limited to a .098 team attack percentage in the game.
Forster finished with 13 kills and Debra Robertson added 10 to round out San Diego's trio of players with double-digit kills. Brynne Young led all players with 10 digs.
Gonzaga was paced by Abby Cullen who finished with 13 kills on 31 attack attempts. Cullen also led Gonzaga's effort at the net with five blocks, two of them solo. Christina Davis finished with nine kills. The Bulldogs will play their final home contest of the season tomorrow night against Saint Mary's College at 7 p.m.
