Baseball Inks Two Junior College Players

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head baseball coach Steve Hertz announced today the signing of two junior college players for the 2004 season. Jason Pohl and Geoff Wagner signed national letters of intent to play baseball at Gonzaga next season.
Pohl, a 6-3 switch-hitting catcher, comes to Gonzaga from Lower Columbia Community College in Longview, Washington. Last season Pohl hit .341 with 22 RBI as he helped guide LCC to a 33-8 record and the West Division Championship of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges. Lower Columbia posted a 27-3 record in division play as Pohl was a first-team NWAACC West Division selection. Pohl played high school baseball at Gladstone (Ore.) High.
Wagner, a 6-1 outfielder, currently plays at Citrus College in Glendora, California. Last season Wagner hit .365 with 40 RBI as Citrus College posted a 33-12 record, advancing to the Regional final. Wagner ranked fourth in the Western State Conference with 13 home runs as he earned second team All-WSC South honors. Wagner played high school baseball at Bend (Ore.) High.
The Bulldogs open the 2003 season February 14 when they travel to the Arizona Spring Training Tournament in Surprise, Arizona. Gonzaga will face Arizona State, Oklahoma State and Oregon State in the weekend tournament.
