San Diego Shuts Down Women's Soccer 4-0

SPOKANE, Wash. - Sophomore midfielder Brooke Roby scored two goals and an assist Sunday afternoon to give the University of San Diego Toreros (10-6-2,3-3-0) a 4-0 shutout over the Gonzaga University Bulldogs (6-12-0,0-6-0) in West Coast Conference action at Martin Field.

Marie Claude Henry sparked the USD offense as she took a short pass from Roby midfield and made a fast break, scoring their first goal with a 5-yard shot from the left post at 15:11. Claude recorded an assist two minutes later off a corner kick as Cristina Romero headed a shot to the far left side of the net to give USD the 2-0 lead.

Roby came up with her first goal at 35:48 when she took a cross from Michelle Rowe and punched an 18-yard shot over the goalkeepers head. Roby posted San Diego's only second-half goal as she converted a short pass from Alexis Obeji from midfield and shot it from 10-yards out into the middle of the net.

The Toreros out-shot the Bulldogs 11-10 as Roby led them with five shots. San Diego goalkeepers Natalie Bobbit and Libby Bassett shared time in the net as they combined for seven saves. Annie Hawkins led the Bulldogs with three shots while Ashley Haugen recorded three saves in goal.

Bulldog assistant coach Kieran Barton was issued a yellow card warning at 61:05, GU's Heidi Jacobson was also issued a yellow card at 63:18. Toreros' Marie Claude-Henry was issued a yellow card at 64:00.

Sunday's match marked the Bulldogs last home contest as they close the season on the road Saturday night against the Santa Clara University Broncos at 7:30 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium.
