SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara Broncos (22-3, 10-1 WCC), ranked 11th in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, combined for a .434 team attack percentage on Saturday night as the host Broncos defeated Gonzaga (4-21, 2-9 WCC) in West Coast Conference volleyball action. Santa Clara won the contest in three games 30-23, 30-27 and 30-14.
Becky Potter and Cassie Perret led the high powered Broncos offense with 15 and 14 kills, each player finishing with a .360 attack percentage. Santa Clara collected 59 kills as a team compared to just 34 kills for the Bulldogs.
Abby Cullen helped to keep the Bulldogs in the contest during the first two games of the match as the junior middle blocker finished with 14 kills on a 40 percent attacking night. Christina Davis and Natasha Kozen followed Cullen's attack effort with six kills each. The Bulldogs finished with a 20 percent team attacking night, but were limited to just six kills during the final game.
Santa Clara swept the season series from Gonzaga as the Broncos extended their current winning streak over the Bulldogs to 16 straight. Chrissy Hirsch led all players with 14 digs for SCU. Missy Perry was the top Bulldog defender with 5 digs as Gonzaga was limited to a season-low 21 digs.
Gonzaga returns home for WCC action next weekend against San Diego and Saint Mary's. Friday's match against the Toreros has been moved to a 6 p.m. start at Martin Centre with Saturday's contest still slated for a 7 p.m. start.
