Homeruns Carry Baseball To 8-4 Win

FRESNO, Calif, - Gonzaga (9-9) evened its record at the 2002 Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic on Tuesday afternoon with a 8-4 win over UC Santa Barbara (11-11). Gonzaga will off finish its pool play against Illinois State at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Beiden Field.
Brian Munhall hit a three-run homerun in the second inning to lift Gonzaga to an early 3-1 lead. UC Santa Barbara would counter with three runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Greg Brooks (4-1) shut down the Gauchos offense for the remainder of the game to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Nate Gold added an insurance three-run homerun in the eighth. For Gold it was his 11th homerun of the season. Garth Blumberg added a homerun against UC Santa Barbara pitcher Jason Edrolson (1-1).
Jeff Culpepper led Gonzaga with two hits while Chris Malich led UCSB with two hits.
