FRESNO, Calif. - The Gonzaga Bulldogs (11-10) continued to use the homerun to their advantage as they won their second straight game at the Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic. Gonzaga hit three homeruns during a 6-2 win over Illinois State (1-8).
Ed Clelland (1-2) pitched seven strong innings to pick up the win. He allowed only two runs as Illinois State's Jake Blair hit a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth for all of ISU's offense. Eric Everson pitched the final two innings for his third save of the season.
The Bulldogs opened with a solo homerun by Garth Blumberg in the third inning. Back-to-back homeruns by Kyle Rajsich and Grant Zurmely would send Illinois State starter Jeff Reyes (0-2) to the showers.
Gonzaga would add two more runs in the sixht inning, one on a Zurmely RBI single to center. Brian Munhall's RBI in the ninth capped Gonzaga's scoring. The Bulldogs will learn their Thursday opponent later tonight.
Zurmely and Eric Rodland each finished with three hits for the Bulldogs.
