Box Score

LEWISTON, Ida. - Lewis-Clark State (30-12) starting pitcher Andy Torres limited Gonzaga (23-18) to just five hits Wednesday night as the Warriors won a non-conference game 5-1 at Harris Field. The loss ended a five-game winning streak for the Bulldogs who now head to San Diego for a three-game West Coast Conference series.

Both teams cruised through the opening four innings as Warriors starter Torres (7-0) allowed just a lead-off double to Eric Rodland while Gonzaga pitchers Greg Brooks and Brad Welker limited LCSC to singles by Paul Gallegos and Zeph Zinsman.

Gonzaga threatened to score in the top of the fifth as they placed runners on second and third with one out. Sam Hess and John Gebbers reached base, Gebbers reaching on a single to center. Torres was able to work out the inning as he tossed a bunt by Eric Rodland to catcher Tyler Best to get Hess trying to score from third.

Lewis-Clark State responded with a scoring threat in their half of the third as Best and Micah Furtado had back-to-back two-out singles against Welker. Bulldogs reliever John Gonzalez was able to get Gallegos to fly out to right field to end the Warriors inning.

The Warriors finally cracked the scoreboard as Emerson Frostad and Tory Haven opened the sixth with back-to-back hits against Gonzalez (0-3). Haven's was a double off the left field wall that allowed Frostad to score from first. Steve Hare was able to get consecutive ground ball outs to get the Zags out of the frame.

L-C State tacked on an additional runs in the seventh as Furtado drove home pinch-runner Neil Litchfield with a double to center. Pinch-hitter Brian Bowman then scored Furtado with a single to left.

Gonzaga scored its lone run of the game in the top of the ninth to avoid being shutout for the first time this season. Hess delivered the RBI single to score Jeff Culpepper.

Rodland, Gebbers, Richardson, Hess and Culpepper all had hits for Gonzaga while Furtado and Zinsman each finished with two hits for the Warriors. Zinsman's second hit was a solo home run in the eighth.
