Gonzaga University senior first baseman Nate Gold was named a first-team All-American selection by Collegiate Baseball as the publication announced its 2002 Louisville Slugger All-American team. Gold was one of 17 players selected to the first team and becomes Gonzaga's second first-team All-American selection, joining Larry Patterson who was a first team selection in 1977.

Gold led the nation with 33 home runs en route to being named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year. His home run total set the school and WCC single-season record while he finished tied for ninth on the NCAA single-season home run list. His 76 RBI also established a new school single-season record as he finished 13th in the nation in RBI.

The West Coast Conference placed three players on the All-American list released by Collegiate Baseball. Joining Gold on the first team was Santa Clara's Joey Gomes, who finished second in the NCAA in doubles. San Diego's Ricky Barrett, the WCC Pitcher of the Year, was named a second team selection after finishing the season 10-1.

The 17-man first team, chosen by performances up to regional playoffs and picked by the staff of Collegiate Baseball newspaper, features 12 conference players or pitchers of the year, including Clemson's Khalil Greene who was selected as the National Player of the Year.
