Kevin Richardson Signs With Texas Rangers

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga senior Kevin Richardson signed a free agent baseball contract with the Texas Rangers over the weekend. Richardson will start with the Rangers' Rookie Level team in Pulaski, Virginia. Former Bulldog first baseman Nate Gold started the summer with the Pulaski team before be promoted last week to the Rangers' South Atlantic League affiliate in Savannah, Georgia.
Richardson was a second team All-West Coast Conference performer this past season hitting .309 with 15 home runs and 54 RBI. Richardson will split time between first base and catcher after serving as the Bulldogs catcher and designated hitter the last two seasons.
Gonzaga now has nine players active in the minor leagues: Scott Morgan (Triple-A, Chicago White Sox), Bo Hart (Double-A, St. Louis Cardinals), Jason Bay (Double-A, New York Mets), Steve Bennett (Single-A, New York Mets), David Hixson (Single-A, San Francisco Giants), George Arnott (Single-A, Florida Marlins), Nate Gold (Single-A, Texas Rangers), Brian Munhall (Rookie, San Francisco Giants), and Kevin Richardson (Rookie, Texas Rangers). Former Bulldogs catcher Mike Redmond remains the only active Major Leaguer with the Florida Marlins.
