PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University Cougars improved to 6-1-0 Sunday afternoon as they over-powered the Gonzaga University Bulldogs (3-4-0) 8-0 in non-conference action at Cougar Soccer Field.
Alix Rustrum put the Cougars on the board in the third minute on rebounded shot from Christie Spear. Rustrum would go on to lead the Cougars with two goals and three assists while Katrina Stroh also recorded two goals. Cougar Nicole Wilcox recorded three assists and a goal.
Bulldog forward Annie Hawkins collected a team-high two shots. While Gonzaga goalkeeper Ashley Haugen allowed eight goals she recorded five saves. Cougar goalkeepers Sara Leibowitz and Katie Hultin split the match in goal as Hultin recorded the only save and the shutout.
The Bulldogs were out-shot 33-4 as the Cougars collected 20 second-half shots. Washington State was the third Pac-10 Conference team the Bulldogs faced this season as they defeated the University of Oregon Ducks 1-0 Sept. 6 before dropping the Sept. 8 match 2-0 to the Oregon State University Beavers.
The Bulldogs begin a three-match homestand Friday when they return to Martin Field against the Idaho State Bengals at 2 p.m.
