SPOKANE, Wash. - Junior forward Ashley Pryor scored the only goal in Sunday's Gonzaga University women's soccer 1-0 shutout over University of Northern Iowa. The victory extended the Bulldogs' winning streak to four games, the longest streak in program history, and also marked the second consecutive shutout for Gonzaga. The Bulldogs improved their record to 7-4, while the Panthers dropped to 6-5. The 7-4 Gonzaga effort marks the best start to a season in program history.
Pryor, a Maple Valley, Wash., native, scored the lone goal of the match early on in the sixth minute of play. Pryor received the ball off a cross from Jessie Torres and headed it past the arms of Panther goalkeeper Anne-Marie Witko. The goal marked Pryor's second goal of the season. Despite offensive efforts from both teams, the rest of the match would remain scoreless.
Gonzaga sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Haugen posted her second shutout of the season, notching eight saves during the game, while Northern Iowa's Witko made nine saves.
The Bulldogs outshot the Panthers, 19-11, while Northern Iowa notched 10 fouls to Gonzaga's eight. Sarah Hawkins led the Bulldog offense with six shots, while Pryor had four shots, all on goal.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 10 as they host University of Montana at 3 p.m. on Martin Field.
