Women's Soccer Extends WCC Win Streak To Three

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Haugen posted her third straight shutout of a West Coast Conference opponent with the Gonzaga University women's soccer team's 1-0 victory over University of San Diego on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved their record to 11-7 (3-3 WCC) while the Toreros dropped to 9-7-3 (2-4 WCC).
The win extended Gonzaga's current win streak to three games, the longest win streak of WCC play for the Bulldogs in program history. All three victories have been on the road, shutouts, and against WCC teams.
Junior forward Annie Hawkins scored Gonzaga's goal in the 38th minute of the first half. The Salt Lake City, Utah, native dribbled the ball past a defender, clearing a shot from five yards out past San Diego goalkeeper Libby Bassett for the game winning goal. Hawkins moved up the ladder with 13 goals on the season, marking her tied for first place in the record books for an individual season record.
Haugen posted her third consecutive shutout for the Bulldogs, her fifth overall this season. The Littleton, Colo., native already holds the career record for shutouts with six during the 2002 season alone. Haugen solidifies her position on top as she adds her five from this season for a total of 11 career shutouts. Haugen marked three saves during the match, while Bassett had none for San Diego.
The Bulldogs' were outshot by the Toreros, 9-2, with Gonzaga's only other shot coming from junior forward Ashley Pryor. San Diego also held the advantage with seven corner kicks to the Bulldogs' one.
Gonzaga returns home to conclude its regular season schedule as the Bulldogs play host to the Broncos of University of Santa Clara on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. on Martin Field.
