Baseball Announces 2004 Schedule

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head baseball coach Mark Machtolf has announced the 2004 schedule for his club as he prepares for his first season as the Bulldogs head coach. Gonzaga will open the 2004 season on Feb. 13-15 at the Coca-Cola Spring Training Classic in Surprise, Ariz., for the second consecutive year. The tournament played at the Spring Training complex of the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals will include games against Oklahoma, Oregon State and Utah. Gonzaga will then stay an extra night in Arizona to face Arizona State on Feb. 16.
The Bulldogs will then hit the road for weekend series at Washington and UC Irvine before heading to Lewiston, Idaho, to compete in the Banana Belt Classic against Lewis-Clark State, Portland, Utah Valley State and Washington State. Gonzaga wraps up non-conference series play on March 12-14 with a series at Oregon State.
West Coast Conference play starts for Gonzaga on March 20-21 with a series at Saint Mary's. Gonzaga then returns home to face Washington on March 22-23 for the Bulldogs home opener at Avista Stadium, site of all of Gonzaga's 2004 home contests. Gonzaga will host San Diego, Portland, Santa Clara, Saint Mary's and Loyola Marymount in WCC series this season with San Diego, Saint Mary's and LMU comprising the WCC Coast Division this season.
In addition to 15 home WCC contests, Gonzaga will also host Washington State on March 30 and April 20 and Lewis-Clark State on April 6 to give Gonzaga 20 home games this season.
