Bulldogs Tame Broncos, 75-54

SPOKANE, Wash. - Freshman Katy Ridenour and junior Ashley Burke each scored 13 points in Gonzaga University women's basketball team's 21-point victory over Boise State University on Wednesday evening in The Kennel.

The Bulldogs (3-5) had four players in double figures, led by Ridenour and Burke with game-highs, while junior Shannon Mathews scored 12 and Ashley Anderson had ten points. Anne Bailey led the defense with a game-high seven rebounds while Gonzaga outrebounded Boise State 37-25.

The Broncos (2-4) had only one player in double figures as Jamie Hawkins put ten points in the scoring column. Nadia Begay and Michelle Hessing each contributed eight points.

Gonzaga took the early lead with a 20-8 run and kept the lead the entire game. Boise State had 17 turnovers in the first half alone, and went 8-22 from the field. At halftime the Bulldogs controlled the game, 40-20.

The second half proved the same fate as Gonzaga held as much as a 27-point lead over the Broncos. Boise State attempted a comeback, narrowing the margin to 14, but the Bulldogs held on to win the game by 21 points, 75-54.

Gonzaga went 50.9 per cent (29-57) from the field, while Boise State shot 40 per cent (20-50). The Bulldogs shot 41.7 per cent (5-12) from beyond the arc, with the Broncos trailing at 26.7 per cent (4-15).

Gonzaga travels to Portland State University to take on the Vikings on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
