Baseball Adds Seven Players For 2004 Season

SPOKANE, Wash. - Less than a week after taking over as head coach of the Gonzaga University baseball program, new Bulldogs skipper Mark Machtolf announced his first recruiting class with the addition of seven players for the 2004 baseball season. Signing national letters of intent to play for the Bulldogs were outfielders Jonathan Miller, Matt Hibbitts and David Hovde, infielders bobby Carlson, Mike Rundle, and Travis Ingram, and right-handed pitcher Sean Webster.
Miller, a right-handed hitting outfielder, comes to Gonzaga after playing high school baseball at West Albany High School in Albany, Oregon. Miller hit .400 during his senior year.
Hibbitts, a right-handed hitting outfielder, joins the Bulldogs as a centerfielder after playing at Grant High School in Portland, Ore., last year. Hibbitts was named to the Tri-State All-Star team comprised of the top players from Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Hibbitts helped Grant High advanced to the 2003 Oregon 4A State quarterfinals.
Hovde, a left-handed hitting outfielder, comes to Gonzaga from Squalicum High School in Bellingham, Washington. He was named an All-Northwest League 3A selection following his senior year.
Carlson comes to Gonzaga after one season of competition at Edmonds (WA) Community College. He helped ECC finish second in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges with a .300 batting average and eight doubles. The right-handed hitting third baseman was named a second team All-NWAACC North Division selection. He played high school baseball at Woodinville High.
Rundle joins the Bulldogs as a junior second baseman after two seasons at Citrus College is California. Rundle ranked ninth in the Western States Conference with a .373 batting average and earned first-team All-WSC South honors with 16 doubles. Rundle played high school baseball in Bend, Oregon prior to playing junior college baseball.
Ingram enters Gonzaga as a junior third-baseman after finishing fifth in the NWAACC batting race with a .385 average. The right-handed hitting infielder from Big Bend Community College earned first-team All-NWAACC East Division honors and All-NWAACC accolades. Ingram played high school baseball at Jefferson High in Tacoma.
Webster comes to Gonzaga after pitching at Liberty High School in Issaquah, Washington. Webster helped guide LHS to the Washington 3A State championship in 2003.
