Women's Soccer Edges Out Idaho State, 2-1

POCATELLO, Idaho - Juniors Walker Loseno and Natalie Hardin each scored a goal to lead the Gonzaga University women's soccer team in a 2-1 victory over Idaho State University on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Bulldogs improve their record 2-2, while the Bengals dropped to 3-1. This marks the best beginning to a season in Gonzaga program history.
Idaho State got on the board first early in the first half as Bengal Chantel Kim scored her first goal of the season in the 10th minute of play. Shawna Park and Heather Jones were both credit with assists.
Gonzaga retaliated as Loseno scored in the 26th minute of the game as freshman midfielder Beth Drollinger crossed the ball in to Loseno. The Renton, Wash., native was able to one-touch the ball past the arms of Idaho State goalkeeper Shannon Boyle to even the score at one all.
At the 36 minute mark, junior forward Annie Hawkins also crossed a ball into the middle to Bulldog teammate Hardin to give Gonzaga the advantage and eventual score, 2-1. Hardin, an Everett, Wash., native, notched her first goal on the season as well.
Bulldog goalkeeper sophomore Ashley Haugen tallied seven saves, while Boyle had three for the game.
Leading the offense for Gonzaga was Hawkins and Loseno, each with three shots, and Hardin with two. For the Bengals, Stacey Allen natched four shots, while Stephanie Anderson tallied three and Chantel Kim had two. Idaho State outshot the Bulldogs, 14-12.
In the seventh minute of the game, Idaho State's Hollie Christensen received a yellow card. Gonzaga's Hardin received the same fate in the 81st minute of the game.
Gonzaga University returns to action as they travel to Utah State University to take on the Aggies on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m.
