BOZEMAN, Mont. - Abby Cullen and Christina Davis each finished with 10 kills on Saturday night but it was not enough to lift the Gonzaga Bulldogs (2-10) to victory as they fell in three games to the Wyoming CowGirls (10-4). With the 30-22, 32-30, 30-21 victory, Wyoming takes home second place at the Wingate Inn-vitational while the Bulldogs finish third at the event after posting a 1-2 weekend record. Gonzaga will stop over in Missoula on Monday afternoon for a match against Montana prior to returning to Spokane late Monday night.
The Wyoming tandem of Michele Rauter and Sara Maytorena proved to be more than the Bulldogs could handle in the second place match as Rauter led all players with 16 kills and Maytorena added 15 kills. The CowGirls top three attackers finished with hitting percentages over .400 as the team combined for a .365 attack mark. Wyoming was also more aggressive at the nets with a 9-4 team block advantage. Leah Powers led the CowGirls with six blocks while Abby Cullen was again the Bulldogs top blockers with two assisted blocks.
Cullen and Davis were the only Bulldogs attackers to be clicking on the night with 10 kills each as setter Emilee Gihring passed out 34 assists on Gonzaga's 40 kills. Heather Signor had 14 digs for Gonzaga to move her career total to 1,017 and move into seventh place on the Gonzaga all-time charts. Signor had become the 8th Gonzaga player to eclipse the 1,000 dig barrier during Saturday morning's loss to Montana State. Gonzaga's best attacking game of the night was in the game two loss as they out hit Wyoming with a .356 to .326 attack percentage and 22-19 kill advantage.
