Women's Soccer Shuts Down Air Force, 4-1

SPOKANE, Wash. - Junior forward Annie Hawkins led the Gonzaga University women's soccer team above .500 with two goals in the Zags' 4-1 victory over United States Air Force Academy on Sunday afternoon at Martin Field. Gonzaga improved to 5-4 with the win, while the Falcons dropped to 4-4-1.

Junior Sarah Hawkins scored the first goal for the Zags off a cross from junior Walker Loseno in the 25th minute. The Salt Lake City, Utah, native scored her third goal of the season, second in two games.

Annie Hawkins put Gonzaga up by a two goal margin with her goal in the 34th minute. The Salt Lake City, native received a pass from Ashley Pryor, drew Air Force goalkeeper J. J. Wolf out and pushed it past to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead going into the second half. This also marked the second-consecutive game that both Hawkins' twins have scored a goal.

The Falcons scored first in the second half as Jennifer Rowland sent the ball past Gonzaga sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Haugen. The unassisted goal came in the 57th minute when Rowland took on Haugen one-on-one.

Annie Hawkins then scored her eighth goal of the season, as she received a pass from her twin, Sarah Hawkins, and shot to the far post. The 60th minute goal put the Bulldogs ahead, 3-1.

Pryor then scored her own goal with a header in the 82nd minute to finalize the Gonzaga victory, 4-1. Pryor received the cross from Loseno and directed in her first goal of the season.

Haugen tallied five saves on the day, while Wolf had three. The shots were evenly matched as Gonzaga led with 12, Air Force had 11.

The Bulldogs return to their home field to host the University of Wyoming on Friday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m.
