Box Score

SPOKANE, Wash. - Luis Aguilar scored his first goal of the season at 64:15 and the University of San Francisco made the tally stand up for a 1-0 West Coast Conference men's soccer victory over Gonzaga University on Friday at Martin Field.

The loss extended the Bulldogs' (4-8-0, 0-4-0) WCC losing streak to 12 matches over the past three seasons while the Dons (7-3-1, 2-2-0) remained within striking distance Santa Clara University and Loyola Marymount University in the WCC chase.

Aguilar took a thru ball from Cole Wollerman and he shot low to the right side to beat Gonzaga keeper Sean Sosnovec.

Both teams had solid scoring opportunities. Gonzaga's Luke Miller had a breakaway shot from the 15 yards on the left side in the ninth minute, but his low, soft shot was an easy save for USF keeper Geremy Uhl who had three saves in recording his second shutout of the season. USF's Cameron Kolovos had a good look at the net in the 36th minute, but his hard shot following a USF corner kick was blocked in front of the net. That was the best scoring attempt of three straight corner kicks for the Dons in a span of 1:01. The second resulted in a Sosnovec save off a Wollerman header that was tipped over the crossbar and the third resulted in a Daniel DeGeer shot that went wide.

Uhl had another big save early in the second half when John Reha shot from 10 yards to the right post was knocked away, and Sosnovec responded in the 58th minute when Kolovos unleashed a hard, low skip shot from 22 yards that bounced off Sosnovec's chest before he corralled the rebound.

USF held a 13-8 shots advantage, Sosnovec matching Uhl with three saves. The Dons also had one goal disallowed when called for an offside. Gonzaga has yet to score a goal in any of its eight losses this season.

The Bulldogs remain home to face Saint Mary's College at 2 p.m. Sunday, following an 11 a.m. women's match between Gonzaga and Pepperdine University. USF will travel to the University of Portland to meet the Pilots at 2:30 p.m.
