GU Has Some Sucess at Montana Fall Invitational

MISSOULA, Mont. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team had the team of senior Angela Fry and freshman Amanda Becker advance to the semifinals round of doubles in the second day of the Montana Fall Invitational Saturday in Missoula, Mont.

The Gonzaga duo of Fry/Becker handed the University of Idaho's team of Ruman/Schrubb a loss in the quarterfinals 9-7. Fry and Becker will battle against another Idaho tandem of Fielding/Tinnirello on Sunday at 11 a.m. GU's other tandem of Bates/Williams were defeated by the University of Montana's Castello/Janairo, 8-3. Gonzaga's final tandem of Humphrey/Lederhouse were defeated by Idaho'd Fielding/Tinnirello, 8-4.

In singles competition Gonzaga didn't have the result that they had hoped for as both Bulldogs lost their quarterfinals match. Becker was defeated by Idaho's Sunel Nieuwoudt in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Senior Sirrah Williams was handed a straight sets loss to Idaho's Jessica Hubbard, 6-3, 6-0.

The conclusion of the Montana Fall Invitational on Sunday is set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
