Women's Hoops Shut Down Saint Mary's, 68-45

SPOKANE, Wash. - Junior Raeanna Jewell hit her first double-double of the season as the Gonzaga University women's basketball team destroyed Saint Mary's College, 68-45, on Thursday evening in The Kennel.

The Bulldogs (14-9, 7-3 WCC) were led by sophomore Ashley Anderson with 16 points, while Jewell had 12 points, 10 rebounds and junior Ashley Burke rounded out the double figures column with 10 points.

The Gaels (13-10, 5-4 WCC) were led by Savannah Williams with 12 points, the only player for Saint Mary's in double figures. Gonzaga's defense limited sharpshooter Triola Jackson to one point during the entire game.

Gonzaga came out strong with a 9-0 run to start the first half with four points coming from Anne Bailey. Saint Mary's was able to play catch-up bringing the score within two at 17-15 with 9:15 left on the clock. The Bulldogs took off with the lead, scoring 23 more points to the Gaels' six to end the half with a 19-point lead, 40-21.

Burke, Anderson and Katie Prichard all hit seven points for Gonzaga in the first half, while Savannah Williams led Saint Mary's with six. The Bulldogs controlled the boards as they doubled the Gaels' 10 rebounds with 20 in the first half alone.

Gonzaga owned the second half and needed to score only six points to claim victory over Saint Mary's. The Bulldogs ran the tally up to as much as 32 points over the Gaels. Saint Mary's made a 9-0 run at the end of the game, but Gonzaga took a 23 point victory over the Gaels.

The Bulldogs shot 41.4 percent (24-for-58) from the field and marked their 100th 3-pointer of the season. Saint Mary's shot 31.1 percent (19-for-61) and went 3-for-9 from the charity stripe. Gonzaga claimed the boards with 47 rebounds to the Gaels' 33. The Bulldogs remain tied with Pepperdine University for second place in the West Coast Conference.

Gonzaga will make its FOX Sports regional television debut as the Bulldogs host University of San Francisco in the women's last home game in The Kennel on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 6:05 p.m.
