Box Score

SEATTLE - The University of Washington Huskies swept a three-game series from the Gonzaga University Bulldogs for the first time since the 1993 season on Sunday afternoon when three Washington (5-1) pitchers combined to toss a two-hit, 3-0, shutout against the Bulldogs (2-5) at Husky Ballpark in Seattle. Gonzaga which entered the weekend averaging 11 hits a game, was limited to just 11 hits for the three game series as all three games were decided by three runs or less.

Keaton Everitt (2-0) limited Gonzaga to just one-hit during seven innings of work and was relieved by Kyle Parker and Will Fenton who each tossed one shutout inning. Fenton allowed the other Bulldogs hit on the afternoon as he picked up his second save of the weekend. Brad Welker and Marshall Bratton accounted for the two Gonzaga hits.

Patrick Donovan (0-1) was also sharp for the Bulldogs as he scattered six hits during six innings of work. Donovan did surrender all three Washington runs before being followed to mound by Bobby McEwen and Eric Everson with two shutout innings of work.

The 23rd-ranked Huskies used a two-out rally in the third inning to score all the runs they would need as Brent Lillibridge singled against Donovan to keep the inning alive for Taylor Johnson who connected for a home run to right. John Otness drove home the game's final run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.

Aaron Hathaway was on the only player to collect multiple hits going 2-for-4 for Washington. The Zags will return to action this weekend with a three-game series at UC Irvine starting Friday night at 6 p.m. Gonzaga and Washington will meet one more time this season when the Huskies come to Spokane on March 22-23 to play Gonzaga at Avista Stadium. The two-game series will be the home opener for the Bulldogs after they will have played their first 20 games on the road.
