PULLMAN, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team closed out the Cougar Classic on Saturday playing in the doubles matches that had been postponed due to bad weather in the Pullman, Wash. area on Friday and picked up one backdraw victory in the second round of singles competition.

Freshman Amanda Becker picked up the Bulldogs only singles win on the day in a No. 1 singles backdraw match as she defeated Montana State University's Vera Vasileva, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.

Senior Angela Fry was defeated in a No. 1 singles backdraw match by Idaho's Patricia Ruman, 6-4, 6-2.

In No. 2 singles backdraw play freshman Sydney Lederhouse defeated Lauren Schrubb of the University of Idaho, def. and then dropped the championship match to Montana's Mari Castello, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6.

Gonzaga dropped the other two matches in No. 2 singles. Senior Sirrah Williams lost to Castello, 6-1, 7-5 and freshman Erin Humphrey dropped a match to Montana's Cheyne Ursich, 6-3, 6-1.

In the first round of doubles the Zags picked up one win with the team of Angela Fry/Amanda Becker advancing on to the second round by default and the team of Lederhouse/Erin Humphrey defeated Montana State's Clark/Lozano, 8-7.

In the second round of doubles play Lederhouse/Humphrey were defeated by the joint team of Sirrah Williams(Gonzaga)/Mari Castello (Montana), 8-5. Williams/Castello were then defeated by Washington State's Sallai/Martinez, def. The team of Fry/Becker defeated Montana State's Clarke/Fey, 8-2. Fry/Becker was then defeated by Idaho's Konishi/Leopold, 8-3 in the semifinals round.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Oct. 9-10 as they travel to take part in the University of Montana's Tournament in Missoula, Mont.
