SPOKANE, Wash. -Gonzaga University's women's soccer team suffered their second shutout of the season as GU's four game win streak came to an end with a 3-0 loss to the University of Hawaii Saturday at the Montana Fall Classic.
Despite the loss Gonzaga is still off to the best start in program history at 7-3-0. Hawaii moves to 7-2-1 on the season.
The Rainbow Wahine broke into the scoring column in the 38th minute when sophomore forward Krisha Kai redirected a deflected pass from junior forward Natasha Kai and put the ball past Gonzaga's junior goalkeeper Ashley Haugen to take the early advantage.
The two teams battled through the remainder of the period with the Bulldogs holding a slight shot advantage, 5-4.
In the second half UH increased its lead as Joelle Sugai skied a pass into the goal box where Natasha Kai headed the ball into the net giving the Rainbow Wahine a two goal cushion.
Seven minutes later Hawaii sealed the deal when senior striker Robyn deHay slipped a pass to Sugai who then crossed the ball to the middle of the field for freshman forward Koren Takeyama to net the final goal of the game.
Haugen recorded four saves in the game and her counterpart Mahie Atay recorded three.
The Zags will be back in action on Friday in Corvallis, Ore. to play Oregon State in a 3 p.m. match. GU will continue its Oregon swing on Sunday when they head into Eugene Ore. to take on the Ducks of Oregon in a 1 p.m. match.
