SOKANE, Wash. - Ashley Pryor netted a reflection off of Christine Soma's shot to give Gonzaga University a 2-1 non-conference women's soccer victory over previously undefeated Boise State University on Sunday afternoon at Martin Field.
With the win Gonzaga improves to 3-1-0, the best start in program history, while BSU drops to 3-1-0.
The Zags were able to get on the board first as in the ninth minute Broncos goalkeeper Kim Parker misplayed a pass from her defender and allowed the ball to roll into the net crediting the Bulldogs with an own goal.
In the 41st minute the Bulldogs were able to add to that lead as Pryor, recording her first goal of the season, corralled a reflection off of Soma's shot attempt and was able to launch a laser just over the head of Mills and just under the cross bar to give the Bulldogs a two-goal cushion going into the break.
Boise State's lone goal came at the 59:29 mark as Missy Bentley was able to sneak behind the Bulldog defense and slip the ball past Gonzaga goalkeeper Ashley Haugen to spoil the shutout for the Zags.
"Overall I'm pleased with the win," said Gonzaga head coach Shannon Stiles. "We wanted the shutout, but unfortunately we gave Boise State their goal. We have to play 90 minutes of soccer every game and today we didn't do that."
The Bulldogs had a decisive advantage in shot attempts as they outshout BSU 17-8.
Gonzaga will be back in action on Friday as they travel to Brigham Young University to play Cougars in a 6 p.m. PST match.
