Gonzaga Loses Dog Fight to No. 10 Washington

Jan. 28, 2005

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team opened the 2005 season with a 7-0 loss to the tenth-ranked University of Washington Huskies Friday afternoon at Nordstrom Tennis Center.

Gonzaga fell behind early as the Huskies swept the doubles matches. The Bulldogs didn't go down without a fight as the GU freshman tandem of Sydney Lederhouse and Erin Humphrey made Washington's team of junior Tara Simpson and freshman Stephanie Svanfeldt work for their 8-6 win in the No. 3 doubles spot.

Singles play held the same fate for Gonzaga as the Huskies won each match in straight sets.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Feb. 4 as they travel to Portland, Ore. to face West Coast Conference foe Saint Mary's in a 10 a.m. duel match.
