SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Gonzaga University's men's soccer team picked up its first point in West Coast Conference play this season, battling 21st-ranked University of San Francisco to a 1-1 double-overtime tie Friday night at Negoesco Stadium.

The Bulldogs (2-5-3, 0-2-1) got a team-leading sixth goal from George Josten at 42:21 to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 halftime lead. Josh Westermann chipped the ball into the penalty area, and when USF keeper Geremy Uhl and defender Kevin Long both went for the ball and collided, it left a wide-open net for the sure-fire Josten.

The goal was the 11th career marker for the sophomore from Idaho Falls, Idaho, who stands ninth on the career goals list for the Bulldogs.

Aaron Chandler took a crossing pass from Matt Languis and beat Gonzaga keeper Vito Higgins at 61:57 to knot the contest for the Dons (6-3-2, 2-1-1).

USF, which outshot the Bulldogs 16-7 for the match, held a 4-3 edge in shots in the overtime. Each team had one shot on goal in the first 10-minute overtime. Higgins made four saves for Gonzaga, while Uhl made one for USF.

The tie snapped a four-match Gonzaga losing streak in the series with the Dons, and was the first deadlock in 14 meetings between the teams. USF leads the series 7-6-1.

Gonzaga will conclude its Bay Area trip at Santa Clara University on Sunday in a 3 p.m. match.
