SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's basketball team opened the exhibition season on Wednesday night with a new look on the floor but with the same results on the scoreboard as the Bulldogs rolled over Concordia (Calif.) University, 89-36, to win the first of two exhibition games this year. Four Gonzaga players scored in double figures as all 12 players in uniform played at least 13 minutes and scored at least 2 points.

"It was great that everyone got see some minutes tonight," stated GU head coach Kelly Graves. "We were able to see a lot of different combinations of players on the floor and I think we had some good efforts from our new players."

Amongst the new players Graves referred to were redshirt freshman Sarah Schramm and freshman Maria Hassett. Schramm led the Bulldogs with 12 points knocking down 4-of-5 from the floor including 2-for-2 from 3-point range and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Hassett also hit double digits with 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting form the floor. Starters Anne Bailey and Stephanie Hawk added 11 points with Bailey posting a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Gonzaga put the game away early with a 17-1 run over the first 9:30 of the game as the Bulldogs limited Concordia to just 9 first-half points and only 11 percent shooting from the field. Concordia was able to find some offensive in the second half as Kristine Jensen scored a game-high 15 points connecting on 6-for-14 from the floor. Concordia shot 24 percent for the contest hitting 13-of-53 shots.

"I was really impressed with our defense tonight," added Graves on the solid effort from his squad. "We showed a lot of intensity and made sure that they did not have many easy looks at the basket."

Gonzaga continued to click on offense in the second half as the Bulldogs shot 64 percent scoring 56 points. The Bulldogs also dominated play on the glass with a commanding 55-33 rebound advantage. Ashley Anderson picked up 9 rebounds in her first action since tearing her ACL prior to the Bulldogs game against the University of Idaho last December. Savanna Anderson was the Lady Eagles top rebounder with 5.

GU hosts Seattle Pacific University on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in their final exhibition game of the year. The regular-season opens on Friday, Nov. 18, at San Jose State University. The Zags home opener will be Sunday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. against Eastern Washington University at the McCarthey Athletic Center.
