CHENEY, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team dominated the singles play capturing five of the six matches to win its third consecutive match with a 5-2 win over nearby rival Eastern Washington University Saturday afternoon.
After falling behind early losing the doubles point the Bulldogs put on an overwhelming performance in singles action. Senior Angela Fry got things started for the Zags when she defeated Kasey Knox in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Amanda Becker followed Fry's lead and picked up a win over Sayaka Yoshimoto in the No 2 spot, 7-6 (4), 6-1. As the momentum started to swing in GU's favor senior Sirrah Williams gave the Zags another singles victory as she knocked off Jennifer Jolley 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Erin Humphrey picked up a win as well as she handed Kim Cabiling a 6-2, 6-2 loss. The Bulldogs final win of the day cam in the No. 5 spot when Kimberly Aigner defeated Jenny Anderson 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3.
Gonzaga will be back in action on March 5 when they head to the University of San Francisco for a West Coast Conference match at 11 a.m.
