Bulldogs Win Third Straight

PASCO, Wash. - Junior Patrick Donovan pitched eight innings allowing one run and five hits as the Gonzaga University baseball team won its third consecutive game with a 5-2 win over Utah Valley State College Saturday afternoon at Columbia Basin College.
After the Zags put up one run in the first, the Bulldogs bats came alive in the second inning as they recorded four runs on five hits. Junior second baseman Scott Campbell drove in the first two runs on a single deep into center field allowing Mike Terry, who had singled, and Aaron McGuinness, who had singled, to come across. Then with the bases loaded Jeff Culpepper was hit by a pitch bringing across Jackson Brennan, who had singled. The final run of the day for GU came when first baseman Bobby Carlson hit a sacrifice fly to center field which plated Campbell.
The Wolverines gave the Bulldogs a scare in the ninth inning. With the Bulldogs leading 5-1, Utah Valley State's Dan Bulow stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and launched a shot deep to left field which went foul four feet from the fence, giving the Zags a sigh of relief.
Campbell was the offensive leader for the Bulldogs as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Donovan (2-1) picked up the win for the Bulldogs allowing one run on four hits and striking our five in eight innings of work. Starter Kyle Tash (1-2) was saddled with the loss for Utah Valley State allowing five runs on five hits in one inning of work.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Sunday when then play in a 1 p.m. game against Utah Valley State at Columbia Basin College.
