SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team recorded a 6-1 win over the University of California, Santa Cruz Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs got the early momentum with the doubles point taking two of three matches. Freshman Sydney Lederhouse and classmate Erin Humphrey defeated Megan Sweeney and Angelizen Zabala, 8-2. GU's second doubles win came when the team of Amanda Becker and Kendall Bates downed Marjorie Youn and Kelly Kerr, 8-3.

In singles play the Bulldogs won all but one match. Angela Fry got things started with her 6-0, 6-2 win over Erika Villalobos in the No. 1 spot. Becker picked up a singles win in the No. 2 spot as she defeated Kathryn Frick, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3. In the No. 3 spot Bates handed Megan Sweeney a 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 loss. Senior Sirrah Williams kept the momentum going in the No. 4 spot when she downed Zabala, 6-3, 6-2. The final Bulldog win came in the No. 6 spot when Lederhouse defeated Kelly Kerr, 6-3, 6-3.

The Bulldog women will be back in action on Friday as they conclude their Northern Calif. road swing with a 1 p.m. match against Fresno State University.
