BOISE, Idaho -The Gonzaga University women's tennis swept the doubles matches and tallied one win in singles play, but lost to the Aggies of Utah State University 5-2 Friday morning.
The Bulldogs got off on the right foot as they swept through the doubles matches. Angela Fry and Sirrah Williams got the ball rolling with their 8-3 win over Lindsey Bennion and Carolyn Stephens in the No. 1 spot. Amanda Becker and Kendall Bates followed that win with a tough 9-7 win over Jill Smith and Lauren Monson in the No. 2 spot. The Zags caped off their perfect doubles play when Sydney Lederhouse and Erin Humphrey downed Andrea Barker and Courtney Anderson, 8-4.
GU was able to capture one win in singles play in the No. 1 spot. Becker dropped her first set 4-6 to Bennion, but roared back with back-to-back 6-2 wins in her next two sets to claim the win.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they compete against Boise State University at 4:30 p.m. in Boise, Idaho.
