SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team was defeated 6-0 in the second round of the West Coast Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Bulldogs drop to 8-15 on the season and will play the University of Portland in a 9 a.m. match in San Diego, Calif. on Sunday.
In a departure from the normal procedure of a dual, the two teams played the singles portion first due to weather constraints in the San Diego area. Santa Clara swept all six singles matches with Kanelle Kaloi defeating Angela Fry 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 in the N o. 1 spot. In the No. 2 spot Kelly Leathers defeated Amanda Becker 6-4, 6-1. In the No. 3 spot Catherine Cochrane defeated Kendall Bates 6-2, 6-4. GU's Sirrah Williams was defeated in the No. 4 spot by Erika Barnes, 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 5 spot Kim Daniel defeated Sydney Lederhouse, 6-1, 6-1 and in the No. 6 spot Jessie Strunk defeated Erin Humphrey, 7-6, 6-0.
