SPOKANE, Wash. -Five months after the final basketball game of the 2004-05 season the Gonzaga University women's basketball team is still reaping the rewards of their most successful season to date. The Bulldogs jumped up 36 spots in average home attendance as the NCAA recently released attendance numbers from last season. Gonzaga averaged 1,817 fans per game to rank 64th among NCAA Division I women's basketball programs.
The Bulldogs led the WCC by 1,100 fans a game with the University of San Francisco second with 697 fans per game. In addition to leading the WCC in attendance, Gonzaga also set a single-game women's attendance record for the WCC when 5,825 fans watched the Bulldogs defeat the University of Portland to cap a perfect conference season. In 2003-04 GU ranked 100th among NCAA Division I schools with an average of 1,281 fans per game. The University of Tennessee led the nation with 13,449 fans per game while the University of Connecticut, Texas Tech University and the University of New Mexico also averaged more than 10,000 fans per game last season.
The excitement continues once again this year as the Bulldogs host 12 home games and the West Coast Conference Tournament in the McCarthey Athletic Center. Season ticket orders are now being taken with reserved season tickets selling for only $50 per seat. Fans can call (509) 323-6000 to get more information or place a ticket order today. Gonzaga women's basketball season ticket holders will also have the first chance at purchasing WCC women's basketball tickets and tournament passes when they become available during the winter. The WCC Tournament will take place Mar. 2-5, 2006.
