SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Jimmy Hayes shot a final-round 71 to jump from a tie for 22nd to a tie for 15th and help Gonzaga University finish tied for sixth at the Bill Cullum Intercollegiate men's golf tournament on Tuesday.
Hayes, who had rounds of 76-72 on Monday, finished at 3-over-par 71 with a 54-hole score of 219 at the 6,771-yard, par 72 Ranch Wood Golf Course.
Brandon Crick, among those tied with Hayes after 36 holes, shot a final-round 75 for a 223 to finish tied for 23rd.
Brian Locke of Loyola Marymount University had a 68 Tuesday to go with Monday's 70-69 to claim medalist honors at 9-under-par 207 for an easy 7-stroke victory over Joe Lopez of Sal State Northridge. Locke and Lopez were the only golfers to break par.
LMU also claimed the team title with an 873 and a 1-shot edge over Cal Poly. Gonzaga tied for sixth with Idaho State University at 897.
The tournament was the last of the fall season for the Bulldogs.
