Bulldogs Set Down In Seattle

Feb. 24, 2006

Box Score

SEATTLE - Gonzaga University scored two runs in the first inning but could not muster much more offensively as the Bulldogs (7-4) were set down 14-4 by the University of Washington (6-2) at Husky Ballpark. GU was limited to only three hits in the game as they lost their seventh straight to UW.

Will Ayala started the Bulldogs off in the first as he connected for a two-run single up the middle against UW starter Tim Lincecum. Lincecum (2-0) would be masterful after that inning allowing only two hits during six innings of work while striking out 13. Gonzaga's other two hits of the game were solo home runs by Jackson Brennan and Zach Woodward.

Washington used the long ball to their advantage all afternoon hitting five against Gonzaga pitching. Matt Stevens trimmed the early GU lead in half with a solo shot in the second. The Huskies added five more in the bottom of the third as they chased Gonzaga starter Bobby McEwen (1-1) from the game. Jake Rife started the big third inning with a solo home run and Curt Rindle closed the frame with a three-run blast.

Matt Hague led the Huskies with 3 hits as they out hit GU 14-3 for the game. The two teams will resume their three-game series on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
