SEATTLE, Wash. - The University of Washington scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Sunday for a come-from-behind 7-5 win over Gonzaga University and a sweep of their three-game weekend baseball series at Husky Ballpark.
Leading 5-3 entering the seventh, the Bulldogs (7-6) went to the bullpen and brought in Nate Williams in relief of Gonzaga starter Patrick Donovan, who went six innings, fanned seven and walked seven.
Bradley Boyer greeted Williams with a double down the left field line to start the decisive rally. Boyer moved to third on a strikeout wild pitch and scored on Matt Hague's sacrifice fly to right. Zach Clem followed with a two-out walk, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Curt Rindal scored Clem with a double to left and Kyle Conley capped the outburst with a two-run homer to left field, his second round tripper of the day and the Huskies tenth against Gonzaga in the series.
Nick Hagadone pitched two hitless innings of relief for the Huskies (8-2) and retired all six batters he faced to pick up his first save and hand the Bulldogs their fourth loss in the last five games. Matt Kasser (1-0) got the win, while Williams (2-1) suffered the loss for Gonzaga.
Scott Campbell got the day off to a fast start for the Bulldogs, his leadoff home run to right field - his first of the season - giving the Bulldogs a quick 1-0 lead. But Conley countered in the second inning with a solo homer to left, his second of the season.
Gonzaga extended the lead to 4-1 in the fourth when Shawn Wayt led off with a single, Aaron McGuinness walked and Ryan Wiegand delivered his first collegiate home run over the right field fence.
The Bulldogs added another run in the sixth inning, Darin Holcomb singling and later scoring when Zach Woodward was safe on an error by Kasser, the second of three Washington pitchers.
Washington closed the gap to 5-3 in the sixth, Joey Dunn and Brett Kaluza drawing bases-loaded walks. That set the stage for the seventh-inning rally.
The Bulldogs will return to action Thursday at the Banana Belt Baseball Classic in Lewiston, Idaho, facing the host Warriors at 2 p.m. at Harris Field.
