SPOKANE, Wash. (gozags.com) - Gonzaga used another tremendous offensive output to overwhelm Dartmouth, 13-2, Sunday. The Bulldog bats came alive for an 18-hit performance and swept the rain-shortened two game series.
Centerfielder Jackson Brennan led off the game with a solo homerun to left. But Brennan wasn't finished. The senior from Castle Rock, Colo., came to bat in the top of the second inning and smashed his 7th round-tripper of the season over the leftfield fence. He would also add two doubles and a walk. Brennan finished the game 4-4, with 2 RBI and 5 runs scored.
Senior first baseman Bobby Carlson also added a two-run blast in the 2nd, as Gonzaga raced to a 7-0 lead after two innings.
Senior left-hander Patrick Donovan picked up the win for the Bulldogs, pitching 5 innings while giving up only one earned run. The Spokane native improved his record to 4-2.
Gonzaga relievers continued to stymie opposing batters as Clayton Mortensen and Cory Powell surrendered only one hit in a combined four innings of work.
Third baseman Darin Holcomb started the home stand well, collecting 6 hits and 5 RBI in the two game series with Dartmouth. Freshman designated hitter Ryan Wiegand added two hits and 2 runs batted in Sunday, tallying five hits for the series to go with 7 RBI.
Jeff Wilkerson took the loss for Dartmouth, dropping to 0-1. The Big Green finished their long West Coast road trip with a 2-9 record. Dartmouth second baseman Johnathon Santopadre ended the series with 8 hits in two games.
Gonzaga will take on Whitworth College on Tuesday at 3pm at Avista Stadium, before opening conference play against Portland at home on Friday.
