NEW YORK - Former Gonzaga University Bulldog Adam Morrison and his Charlotte Bobcats teammate Walter Herrmann were named to the T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team on Tuesday, marking the third straight year Charlotte is represented on the all-rookie unit.
Emeka Okafor, the 2004-05 Rookie of the Year, made the First Team in the Bobcats inaugural season, followed by Raymond Felton with Second Team Honors in 2005-06.
The third overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft after an Al-America junior season at Gonzaga, Morrison was awarded Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for his efforts in November and finished the season ranked second among rookies in scoring with 11.8 points, while leading his class with 29.8 minutes. Morrison partook in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam over All-Star weekend in Las Vegas, Nev., where he led the Rookies with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Over the course of the season, Morrison produced nine games with 22-plus points, leading Charlotte to a 6-3 record in those contests. He scored a career-high 30 points on Dec. 30 in the Bobcats 113-102 win at Indiana.
Herrmann finished the season strong, averaging 14.3 points over 22 games in April and March, after averaging 4.1 points over the first four months of the season. He took home Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honors in March, averaging 12.1 points on .585 shooting. He finished the season ranked first among rookies in three-point shooting percentage (.461) and second in field goal percentage (.527). He notched a career-high 30 points on 12-18 shooting (6-8 from three-point range) in the Bobcats 113-92 win at Milwaukee on April 14.
Morrison earned 12 first-team votes and totaled 35 points from the 30 NBA head coaches on the voting panel, while Herrmann earned one first-team nod and garnered 10 total points. The coaches were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for first team votes and one for second team votes.
Brandon Roy of the Portland Trail Blazers, the 2006-07 NBA Rookie of the Year, headlines a talented group of rookies named to the NBA All-Rookie Team.
Roy is joined on the first team by Toronto's Andrea Bargnani (57 points), Minnesota's Randy Foye (48 points), Memphis' Rudy Gay (39 points), Toronto's Jorge Garbajosa (37 points) and Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge (37 points).
The voting panel consisted of the NBA's 30 head coaches, who were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position.
