SENIOR DAY
THIS WEEK: The Gonzaga University women's soccer team closes out his 2008 home schedule against 14th ranked University of San Diego on Friday. The Bulldogs will honor seniors Kayla Jerde, Lacey Castleberry, Lauren Dascenzo and team captain Kelcey Goddard prior to the final home match of the season.

LAST WEEK: Gonzaga University went 2-0-0 last week, using two goals by freshman Courtney Peacock including her match-winner just over six minutes into overtime to beat Saint Mary's College 4-3 in a West Coast Conference match. The Zags closed out the perfect weekend with sophomore keeper Lauren Ames' sixth shutout of the season and junior Lori Conrad's first score of the season in the 1-0 win over the University of San Francisco on Sunday.
ABOUT THE SAN DIEGO TOREROS: The University of San Diego enters the week ranked 14th in the Soccer Buzz Magazine national poll with an overall record of 13-3-2 and 5-0-0 in West Coast Conference play, putting them in a tie for first place in the WCC standings with the University of Portland. USD leads the all-time series with the Zags 12-3-0, taking last year's double overtime match 1-0 in Spokane. Jen Mello enters the week leading the Toreros and tied for second in the WCC with nine goals on the season. Ada Greenwood is in his sixth year as head coach for USD and owns a 67-42-12 overall record at the school.
SCHEDULE TURNING OUT TO BE QUITE TOUGH: Gonzaga University has played seven teams that appear in the top 50 of the NCAA RPI rankings. In last week's RPI rankings, the University of Portland was ranked 3rd, the University of Colorado was 15th, the University of Washington 18th, Long Beach State University 27th, the University of San Diego 29th, Washington State University 39th and Loyola Marymount University 47th. Seven Bulldog opponents have appeared in at least one top 25 national poll this season.
THE ZAGS AND RANKED OPPONENTS: Gonzaga University will face its third ranked opponent of the season this weekend, matching up with 14th ranked University of San Diego Friday. The Bulldogs have dropped both of its matches against ranked opponents this season, losing a heartbreaker 1-0 in the final minutes to 21st ranked University of Colorado at the Colorado Soccer Classic Sept. 19 and a 4-0 decision to 3rd ranked University of Portland Oct. 12. Gonzaga owns a 5-45-1 all-time mark against ranked opponents with all five wins coming during head coach Shannon Stiles' tenure.
MAKING THEM COUNT: All three goals scored by Gonzaga University sophomore Sheridan Jones this season have been match-winners. The three goals also set a new career high, surpassing her two scores of last season. Her first goal of the season came in the Zags 3-1 win at the University of Idaho Aug. 29, her second was the lone score of the match in GU's 1-0 win over California State Bakersfield Sept. 7, and her third netter gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 double overtime win over Eastern Washington University Sept. 28th. The Hillsboro, Ore. native enters the week fourth in the West Coast Conference in match-winners and fifth in shots (46). She also leads the team in goals, assists (3), points (9) and shots-on-goal (18).
AIMING HER WAY UP THE CHARTS: Gonzaga University women's soccer sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Ames posted her sixth shutout of the season this past Sunday, tying her for the third most shutouts by a Bulldog keeper in a single season. She has eight career shutouts, the third most in Gonzaga history. The Albuquerque, N.M. native earned her first career West Coast Conference Player of the Week honor Oct. 6 after she posted two shutouts that week, turning away seven shots at Idaho State University Oct. 3 and made a career-high 12 saves at Weber State University Oct. 5. Ames enters the match against the University of San Diego tied for third in the WCC in shutouts (6) and fourth in saves (72).
YET ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE ZAGS: Four players have recorded their first career goals for Gonzaga University this season. Freshman Courtney Peacock became the latest Bulldog to do so as her first and second career scores came in last Friday's 4-3 overtime win against Saint Mary's College. Freshman Sarah Rhodes recorded her first career netter in the 1-0 win over the University of Montana Sept. 12. Junior Christi D'Agostino and redshirt freshman Katie Spangenberg also have recorded their first career goals for the Zags this season. D'Agostino's goal proved to be match-winner in the Zags' 1-0 win over Portland State University on Aug. 24 and Spangenberg picked up her first career netter against the University of Washington Aug. 31.
